We’re pleased to share that CIRCAN contributed to the BMJ Open article “Sepsis epidemiology in Australian and New Zealand children (SENTINEL): protocol for a multicountry prospective observational study.”
This prospective, multicentre observational landscape analysis will enrol children (0–18 years) presenting with suspected community-acquired sepsis across 12 emergency departments in Australia and New Zealand (PREDICT network).
The study will characterise the burden of disease (incidence, severity, outcomes and cost), prospectively evaluate diagnostic criteria and risk-stratification tools, and describe therapies, quality of care, antimicrobial stewardship and guideline adherence. It will also assess parental awareness/understanding of sepsis and parent-reported outcomes at 90 days.
By standardising definitions and benchmarking current practice, SENTINEL will provide the evidence base needed to design future interventional trials that improve childhood sepsis outcomes.
CIRCAN is pleased to collaborate on this important research.
